Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) Vice President of Student Affairs Douglas Robinson has announced his retirement, making him the longest-running VP in California State University history since he took up the position in 1991. This marks the second major departure of a CSULB administrator–following that of President F. King Alexander–this season, with Robinson’s last day officially marked as August 1.
“It’s time,” Robinson told the Daily 49er. “I am leaving when I am healthy, happy, not mad at anybody, not angry with any constituent group. It’s really just the perfect time.”
Robinson’s office oversaw the entirety of Student Services–comprised of over 35 university programs and services–which focuses on the needs of students outside the classroom, including extracurricular, civic and social engagement. Mary Ann Takemoto, current associate vice president of student services and director of counseling and psychological services, will take on the role as Interim Vice President following Robison’s formal departure.
Grabbing his bachelors and masters degrees from Iowa State University, Robinson ventured to California to obtain his Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University.
