Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach will be honored at the end of the year by the Campaign for College Opportunity for excelling at enrolling and graduating associate degree or transfer earners, the nonprofit research and advocacy organization announced this week.

LBCC and CSULB will be recognized December 5 in Los Angeles for “excellence in implementing the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) program and supporting students’ goal of transferring and earning a bachelor degree”.

The following CCCs and CSUs will be recognized:

  • Moorpark College
  • Citrus College
  • Pasadena City College
  • Cuesta College
  • Glendale Community College
  • Santa Ana College
  • Long Beach City College
  • Fresno City College
  • Diablo Valley College
  • CSU Fullerton
  • CSU Long Beach
  • CSU Bakersfield
  • CSU Sacramento

“Transfer should not be a maze. This year’s honorees are stellar examples of what can be done when leaders work together,” said Michele Siqueiros, president of the Campaign for College Opportunity, in a statement. “Our honorees have redefined what is possible and as a result, have helped thousands of students transfer and reach their educational goals.”

According to CCO, only 4 percent of college students transfer annually. In 2010, in partnership with then state Sen. Alex Padilla, the Campaign for College Opportunity sponsored a transfer reform legislation meant to create a clearer path for students to earn an associate degree and get guaranteed admission as juniors to the CSU system.
