The seniors of Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) have some major bragging rights after recently graduating: they have earned $95.5M in scholarships and grants this year for continuing their education, more than any other previous class.

lbusdPoly High earned the most for any single school with $30.5M, which surpassed last year’s previous record by $1.7M. More than $17.5M of that pot went to athletic scholarships, for which the highest single scholarship was offered by Ohio-based Miami University for $458K. Grants from Stanford, Harvard, U Penn, Cornell, Darmouth, John Hopkins, Notre Dame, USC, Northeastern, NYIT, Boston University, and 15 CSU campuses were also given to Poly students.

Coming in second was the California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS) with $14M in scholarships, including its highest single scholarship of $232K from Barry University. Stanford, Pomona College, Yale, Kalamazoo, USC, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Rice and UCLA are just a few of the many schools which offered scholarships or grants to CAMS students.

Rounding out the list was:

  • Lakewood High with $7.3M
  • Jordan High/Jordan Plus with $5.7M
  • Cabrillo High with $3.3M
  • Avalon High with $1.7M
  • Renaissance with $263K
  • Educational Partnership High with #32K
  • Reid Continuation High with $8K

Students districtwide also earned hundreds of non-monetary honors including Rotary Service Above Self, Most Inspiring Student, Eagle Scout, National Hispanic Recognition and National Merit awards.
