An elderly man appears to have drowned in one of the lakes at El Dorado Park this afternoon, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

Several witnesses saw the man submerge into the lake but not resurface around 5 p.m. on Monday, prompting several 911 calls, said LBFD spokesman Capt. Jack Crabtree.

About 13 LBFD firefighters and marine safety personnel responded, according to Crabtree. The fire department’s dive team found the man and pulled him out of the lake at about 6:45 p.m., according to Crabtree.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the LBFD.

The man’s name has not been released. Why the man went into the water is unknown, said Crabtree.

The Long Beach Police Department is currently investigating, according to Crabtree.
