4:45pm | An elderly man who wandered away from his Long Beach home was located quickly and returned safely thanks to the electronic emergency bracelet he was wearing, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The bracelet is part of the department’s Safe Reunion/Long Beach program, which provides the bracelets free of charge to those prone to wander due to cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, autism, dementia and more. The bracelets cost approximately $25 per month to operate.

Police responded to a call in the early morning hours on Tuesday that the man had been missing from his downtown home near 1st Street and Lime Avenue. They found that the subject had received a free emergency bracelet, activated it, and quickly located the man about a mile away from his home. He was safe, but not dressed appropriately for temperatures in the 40s.
