8:55am | The Board of Directors of the Long Beach Rosie the Riveter Foundation announced yesterday the eleven women who will be honored at the Foundation’s first “We Can Do It” awards.
Awards will be presented at a luncheon which starts at 11:00am on Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the offices of Keesal, Young and Logan, located at 400 Oceangate, Long Beach.
“Just as women rolled up their sleeves to do what was almost considered impossible during World War II, these eleven women have demonstrated that same ‘We Can Do It” spirit which earns them our thanks and special recognition,” explains Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, who also serves as President of the Foundation.
Awards will be given to:
- Dr. Beverly O’Neill – Public Service
- Mary Stanton – Education
- Wilma Powell – International Trade
- Diana Hendel – Healthcare
- Jane Templin – Labor
- Nancy Latimer – Historic Preservation
- Caryn Desai – Arts and Culture
- Susan Pescar – Sports
- Jean Chamberlain – Corporate Leadership
- Nancy McCrabb – Local Business Leadership
- Terry Braunstein – Special Recognition
The Long Beach Rosie the Riveter Foundation will also recognize the contributions of several sponsors who have made the enhancements to the Rosie the Riveter Park and Interpretive Center possible: Keesal, Young and Logan; Supervisor Don Knabe; Long Beach Naval Heritage Association; Blake Christian; Daughters of the American Revolution.
