The organization Catholic Charities will hold its annual “An Evening With Angels” event at the Reef Restaurant this October 23, honoring Long Beach veterans housing campus Villages At Cabrillo and locally-based US Vets, among others. Villages houses over 1,000 people who were previously homeless, 500 of which are veterans and about 250 of which are children.
“Century Villages is a pretty amazing site,” said Michael Roth, Chair of the region’s advisory board. “I don’t think there is anything like this in world. It’s a beautiful place with all sorts of help for families including a transitional school, child care center, and now an adult education center.”
The lbpost.com visited Villages last summer in this feature piece about the facility, and the progress that its inhabitants are making thanks to readily available resources on the campus. A nearby school offers daycare, public school and adult classes. US Vets is a service provider for Villages, and recently began a new program for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan – a growing number of whom are returning to America in danger of experiencing homelessness.
An Evening With Angels will kick-off with a silent auction at 5:00pm and dinner begins at 7:00pm. Proceeds will benefit Catholic Charities’ homeless shelter, the Elizabeth Ann Seton Residence. For more information, call Anna Totta at 562.591.1641.
“I want to thank all the wonderful persons who have donated to make this event happen,” said Angela Hudran, event chair. “Even in tough economic times, more donors have stepped up to the plate than ever before.”
