5:10pm | A new and expanded Vons grocery store is set to open in downtown Long Beach Thursday, December 9 in an opening ceremony that will benefit local charity Children Today.
The new Vons at 600 East Broadway Avenue has been a Safeway since 1966 and was converted to Vons in 1989. Construction on an update began in January 2010 and will increase the square footage from 21,625 to more than 49,500.
The store will feature a pharmacy and full-service deli, as well as Starbucks and plans to carry plenty of organic foods.
