The nonprofit organization “Police and Fire: The Fallen Heroes,” along with California Pizza Kitchen, will present a check of more than $31,000 Tuesday to benefit the family of a Long Beach fire captain who was shot to death at the scene of an explosion at a senior housing complex.

A 2 p.m. ceremony is planned at the CPK restaurant at 61 Pine Ave., where the check will be presented to the Long Beach Firefighters Union, Local 372, to benefit the Captain Dave Rosa Trust Fund.

Rosa, 45, was shot June 25 at the 11-story building in the 600 block of East Fourth Street. He was a 17-year veteran of the department and a married father of two sons.

A fundraiser was held on July 17 at all CPK restaurants in Los Angeles and Orange counties and in the Inland Empire. More information is available at www.thefallenheroes.org.

Thomas Man Kim, 77, was accused of killing Rosa. Authorities contend Kim set off an explosive device in the building in an effort to kill a neighbor with whom he had been feuding. He allegedly got scared when police and firefighters arrived and began shooting, striking Rosa and another firefighter who survived.

Kim died in custody at the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center on Aug. 5 as a result of a pre-existing condition.
