A 72-year-old motorist died Monday night when she struck an unoccupied parked car at slow speed in the city’s South Wrigley neighborhood, authorities announced today.

The incident was reported at 9:35PM on the 2200 block of Golden Avenue, officials stated.

The victim, identified only as a Long Beach resident pending notification of kin, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra north on Golden Avenue when she struck an unoccupied Toyota Corolla parked on the east curb at slow speed, officials stated. That impact resulted in minimal vehicular damage.

When officers arrived, they discovered the Elantra resting on its passenger side in the middle of the road. The victim, who was alone in the car, was not wearing a seatbelt and was lying unconscious inside the vehicle.

There were no witnesses to the collision.
