A fire damaged a commercial building housing a restaurant in Long Beach today, but no one was hurt.

The fire was reported about 5:30AM in the 5300 block of East Second Street, the Long Beach Fire Department reported. Firefighters extinguished the flames in about an hour and contained the fire to one unit in the building.

The fire damaged a building that housed Dogz Bar and Grill, gutting the restaurant weeks before it was scheduled to reopen after being closed since January of 2017 because of flooding, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported.

Traffic was routed away from the area while an investigation was conducted into the cause of the fire.
