Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel rescued two men trapped in an underground electrical vault this morning.

LBFD units and the Urban Search & Rescue Team were dispatched to the 3700 block of Country Club Drive after receiving reports of two workers, ages 20 and 37, trapped in an underground electrical vault. The first arriving units found the two men conscious but complaining of injury and lying at the bottom of the open vault, said LBFD spokesman Brian Fisk.

The two men were rescued and transported with injuries to an area trauma hospital after an hour-long technical confined space rescue operation.

No other information was available, and the cause of the accident is under investigation. We will update the story as we learn more.
