A fire hydrant leaking water into the street briefly closed an eastbound lane on 2nd Street and the left turn lane from Pacific Coast Highway to 2nd Street Friday afternoon, officials said.

A construction crew accidentally “clipped” a water line or a fire hydrant at 2nd Street and Shopkeeper Road, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Matt Dobberpuhl said.

Officials weren’t immediately sure how long it will take to reopen the lanes, police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.

The Water Department was on scene around 3:30 p.m. to shut off the water.
