A Long Beach firefighter suffered second-degree burns Sunday while attempting to put out a heavily involved blaze at at one-story residence in East Long Beach.
Long Beach Fire Department resources were dispatched to 2400 Roswell Ave. at approximately 6AM Sunday morning and discovered a fire that had already spread throughout the house and attic, according to firefighter Matthew Dobberpuhl. The occupant of the home and his dog were able to escape the home unharmed, however, an unnamed firefighter suffered burns to his ears, neck and knees during the fire attack.
The firefighter was transported to Long Beach Memorial for evaluation and then transferred to the USC Burn Center where he was treated and released, Dobberpul said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
