Crews used a boat-mounted water cannon to knock down a fire atop a 200-foot crane in the Los Angeles Harbor area this afternoon.

Two acetylene torches on the crane ignited just after 3 p.m. in the 2500 block of Navy Way, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crane wasn’t operational when the fire started, according to Bastman, who said one person was evaluated at the scene for an unspecified medical complaint not related to the fire. That individual was not taken to a hospital.

Forty-three firefighters responded and knocked down the fire in 83 minutes, Bastman said.

“The flames were extinguished with Boat 2’s large water flowing ‘deckgun,'” she said.
