10:30am | Four people were shot on Monday afternoon as they sat on the steps of an apartment building in the 200 block of W. Burnett Street, authorities say.
The shooting occurred around 5:20pm. Police say the suspect walked up to the group and fired, while the Press-Telegram reports that an unnamed witness says the suspects shot from a moving Honda Accord (although that description of the car emerging from an alley parallel to Cedar and then fleeing east on Burnett does not make geographical sense).
A 19-year old male was listed in serious condition but has since been upgraded to stable. Three females – aged 16, 17 and 22 – were also transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related, said Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Nancy Pratt.
Police do not have any available suspect information at this time, and Pratt noted that a Press-Telegram report that detectives are looking for three suspects is “simply erroneous.”
She also said it is not yet apparent who the intended target was, or if this shooting is in any way related to two shootings last week that killed 17-year old Jeffrey Jackson and injured four other males in consecutive nights.
More to come…
