Local writers are invited to a free poetry writing workshop at Chiltepe Restaurant to encourage and inspire them to make a contribution to the Book by Authors project. The event will be hosted by Smolarcorp this Saturday, February 7, from 2:00-3:30pm.
The workshop will open with a brief history of north Long Beach, followed by a presentation from two talented writers. The first is Mike Sonksen, also known as “Mike the Poet,” a Long Beach author and poet recently featured in the Los Angeles Times. Second is Rhoda Greenstone, an instructor and writer whose works have been featured in numerous publications including Verdad Magazine and Poetic Diversity.
Book by Authors – North Long Beach Anthology is a collection of creative works about North Long Beach by local writers and artists. The collection will showcase local talent, and unveil Long Beach as a community and will produce both a learning tool and an inspiring opportunity for our youth.
“We are hosting workshops and seeking entries for our upcoming publication, Book by Authors: North Long Beach Anthology,” Ryan Smolar, founder of Smolarcorp, said. “We want your written words about (or inspired by) North Long Beach. The submission deadline is March 15 and the top fifty entries will be published!”
Anyone with a North Long Beach connection is welcome to submit their works of fact or fiction in any format (from screenplays to essays and poetry). There is just one rule: submissions must be short!
This workshop was made possible with generous support from the Connected Corridor, Leadership Long Beach and the Knight Foundation.
