9:21am | All residents concerned about the City Council’s proposed plan to move a large chunk of Bixby Knolls into the Seventh District during the redistricting process should mark their calendars for Tuesday, June 28, when Eighth District Councilwoman Rae Gabelich will host a community meeting on redistricting.

The meeting will be held at the Expo Building, 4321 Atlantic Ave., and is set to start at 6:30 p.m.

On a motion by Seventh District Councilman James Johnson, the City Council earlier this month approved on a 5-4 vote to circulate a redistricting plan that would break up the Bixby Knolls neighborhood by moving a large portion of it into his district. The proposal would split the Bixby Knolls commercial corridor down the middle of Atlantic Avenue.

Gabelich, who cast a dissenting vote, is staunchly opposed to the plan, while Johnson states that Bixby Knolls should be reunited with the city’s other Bixby namesake communities: Bixby Terrace, Bixby Highlands and New Bixby.

All Bixby Knolls residents are urged to attend to learn about the redistricting process and how the proposed plan would impact them.
