The 24 year-old Long Beach gang member, who fled from the North Long Beach mobile home park where he allegedly shot his girlfriend and mother of his three children on August 4, was arrested early Sunday morning in a Compton home.

Acting on a tip from the public, police arrested Marcos Gustavo Zermeno at 1:50AM Sunday at a residence in the area of Santa Fe Ave. and Oaks St. in Compton. The suspect has a tattoo of the word “Compton” tattooed on his right forearm.

Police have been searching for Zermeno since the incident over a week ago, which began with an argument between he and 22 year-old girlfriend Eleanora Rivera Hidalgo and ended with Hidalgo being shot in a car outside of the mobile home they shared with their three children, ages seven, six and two. Police spokesperson Nancy Pratt said that witnesses spotted Zermeno attempting to steal a car before jumping over a fence after the shooting. Hidalgo died that night from her wounds.

The Press-Telegram reported that the couple had a tumultous relationship, and quoted a relative as saying that the victim and suspect “argued frequently.”
