A traffic collision on the Gerald Desmond Bridge involved eight vehicles, authorities said.

On June 14, the Gerald Desmond Bridge will close for scheduled safety light repair and replacement, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) announced Wednesday.

Traffic will be closed in both directions for the repairs and replacements, which are unrelated to the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement project, according to the release.

The work is needed to comply with aviation safety standards. Motorists will be able to use the Pacific Coast Highway for east and west travel between Long Beach and San Pedro, and to access the 103 Freeway to reach Terminal Island or Ocean Boulevard.
