Governor Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver will both be in Long Beach Monday for the construction of a safe, new playground at the New City School on Long Beach Blvd. The playground’s design is inspired by drawings made by NCPS students who attended a Design Day event in August.
Schwarzenegger, Shriver, Cindy Crawford and Kimora Lee Simmons will be on hand along with 300 volunteers for the construction of the playground and organic garden, which will begin at 10:00am. Plans are to cut the ribbons at 5:00pm.
The new playground will provide more than 240 children in the downtown Long Beach community a safe place to play. The area has few playgrounds and limited green space for community children to enjoy. Now, in addition to providing high-quality public education to children in these areas, New City Public Schools, with the help of The Women’s Conference, BP and Kaboom!, will provide a beautiful and fun outdoor playground at its new Long Beach Boulevard campus.
The playspace is one of more than 200 that KaBOOM! will build across the country in 2007 in an effort to provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
