6:03am | In an open race to become the City Prosecutor of Long Beach, Doug Haubert has claimed victory with 54.4% of the vote over opponent Timothy O’Reilly.

Haubert opened his campaign with a splash in December by announcing his candidacy along with a laundry list of endorsements from high-powered and well-regarded political figures. He worked in the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office until 2001, earning a reputation for taking on local slumlords, before moving on to the law firm of Aleshire & Winder, LLP where he was contracted out to serve as City Prosecutor for various cities.

O’Reilly served in the City Prosecutor’s office and practiced law in Long Beach for 20 years and made his move for the position when his boss, Tom Reeves, decided to pursue the City Attorney job. O’Reilly touted his military experience and promised a tough stance on violent gangs.

Haubert publicly promised to pick up where he left off in regards to prosecution of slumlords who take advantage of tenants, and also touted experience in matters of political ethics and land-use.
