Long Beach, it’s time to get your glow run on.
The two-mile, glow-in-the-dark course, hosted by Colorrain GLOW and originating in the Netherlands, is coming to the States for the first time. The course, fit for everyone including runners, walkers, and those pushing baby strollers, will start and end at Shoreline Aquatic Park, stretching west along the coast to Palm Beach Park and back. While participants are encouraged to run—competitors: get your game face on—there is no prerequisite as to who can attend, and those of all levels of fitness are welcome.
Costumes? Encouraged. Team outfits? Absolutely. The zanier, the merrier (aside from your shoes; comfy, supportive running shoes are encouraged).
“We have worked hard to ensure this is the perfect place for all age groups and fun seeking, glow in the dark party people,” said local Danielle Stone, co-founder of the American glow run. “Come with your family, your neighbors, your team, your school, your date, your youth group, your sorority, your boss or anyone else who likes to move and groove. Whoever you are, you belong here.”

Touting it as an event tailored to Long Beach, Colorrain GLOW has brought on a handful of local organizations—We Love Long Beach, Precious Lambs Preschool, Autism in Long Beach, among others—that will be on hand to participate in the glow run. Newly-opened Groundwork Fitness from Pine Ave. will also be on hand to offer free fitness classes while also providing health coaching to the homeless and those in need.
According to Stone, the event has already attracted runners from San Diego to San Francisco. She also encouraged people to create teams, as not only will the run donate 10% of their tickets to a local charity of the group’s choice but will also have a “super secret” surprise for the largest team.
The Long Beach Glow Run will take place on October 4 at Shoreline Aquatic Park, located at 100 Aquarium Way, with sign-ins beginning at 5PM and the run going from 7PM to 8:45PM. For information and tickets ($35), click here.
