The MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) at Long Beach Memorial received $25,000 through the generous donation made by three radiologists—Brooke Caldwell, M.D., Angela Sie, M.D. and Gretchen Stipec, M.D.—who make up Breast Imaging Radiologists, a Medical Group, Inc., which provides professional imaging services at TCI.

“We believe in the mission statement of the Todd Cancer Institute, which is to provide comprehensive and personalized care that is developed for the unique needs of each patient,” says Angela Sie, M.D., imaging director, MemorialCare Breast Center, Long Beach Memorial. “We wanted to support TCI because we believe in its commitment to the early detection and comprehensive treatment of breast cancer.”

The new Todd Cancer Pavilion will allow all of the TCI outpatient centers to be housed under one roof, further unifying the treatment that each TCI patient receives. The new pavilion encompasses the philosophy that healing begins with a clear focus on the mind, body and spirit – weaving the psychosocial aspects of cancer treatment into clinical and research efforts. The new Todd Cancer Pavilion will house the expanded MemorialCare Breast Center, Ambulatory Infusion Center, Women’s Specialty Center, Community Resource Center, Cancer Specialty Center – complete with a roof-top garden, Cancer Risk & Prevention Program and an Integrated Cancer Medicine Program.

Breast Imaging Radiologists, a Medical Group, Inc., was created in 2006. The decision to donate was made by Angela Sie, M.D., Brooke Caldwell, M.D. and Gretchen Stipec, M.D. a year and a half ago. Each month, they contribute a percentage of their salary towards the $25,000 gift.

“The Todd Cancer Pavilion is unique in that it can provide treatment for many different types of cancer under one roof,” says Dr. Sie. “Also, we feel very strongly that TCI’s multi-disciplinary approach is paramount in treating cancer successfully. Having access to so many resources allows us to make individualized cancer therapy a clinical reality.”

To commemorate their donation, an exam room in the Breast Center at the new Todd Cancer Pavilion has been named in their honor.
