Long Beach Memorial introduced Tuesday a new addition to the hospital, The Center for Women’s Pelvic Health, that will offer comprehensive treatment options for women with pelvic problems that often go untreated because they are assumed to be caused by aging.
“Pelvic health issues are more common than one might think,” said Jocelyn Craig, M.D., urogynecologist, Center for Women’s Pelvic Health, Long Beach Memorial, in a statement. “Any woman challenged with a pelvic health disorder knows that these issues can easily affect quality of life, but most women don’t know that many of these issues are treatable.”
According to Long Beach Memorial, women of all ages are apt to suffer from bladder or pelvic floor disorders (PFD) caused by various factors such as childbirth, heavy lifting, menopause and aging and other chronic medical and neurological conditions. While problems are more common with age, young women can also be affected.
“The Center for Women’s Pelvic Health at Long Beach Memorial offers patients a comprehensive blend of community and hospital-based programs to bring relief for these conditions,” continued Dr. Craig.
Non-surgical treatments, such as medication and pelvic muscle rehabilitation, will be offered, along with minimally invasive surgical procedures, according to the announcement. Patients will receive personalized treatment plans and will be advised and treated by skilled pelvic surgeons, including fellowship-trained urogynecologists and PFD-experienced urologists, gynecologists and colorectal specialists.
