Participants from Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, shaved their heads at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation head shaving event at Hennessey’s Tavern in Seal Beach on Saturday, April 11. The event was held to raise funds for childhood cancer research to find better cures for patients facing a cancer diagnosis.

Janel Seth, the Cancer Center’s very own pediatric oncology nurse, donated her hair to Locks of Love and shaved her golden tresses in an effort to raise awareness and funds to conquer childhood cancers.

“I have been a pediatric oncology nurse 28 years,” said Seth in a statement. “During that time I have had the honor of caring for the most amazing children. They are brave and strong of spirit, wise beyond their years. Fortunately most have survived and won their battle against childhood cancer.”

She continued, “Those that have not survived lived gallantly until the end and have left a little of themselves in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know and love them. It is with smiles and tears, in honor and remembrance, that I am shaving my head this year.”

Abigail (pictured with her dad), a current patient at Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center, helped her dad, Mike, shave his head at the event. Jillian (pictured above), a former patient of the Center who is now cancer-free, attended the event to show her support and help make the first cut.
