Several Good Samaritans came to the rescue of a local jewelery shop owner yesterday when they helped him fend off an armed robber who was allegedly attempting to hold up the store.

Just before noon Monday, the would-be robber entered the store (the name of which is not being released) on the 1200 block of East Anaheim St. in Cambodia Town. A struggle between the suspect and the store owner ensued and the suspect’s gun discharged. No one was struck by the bullet, but two people people from the area came to assist the owner in detaining the attempted robbery suspect until police arrived, according to Lisa Massacani of LBPD.

Both the suspect and victim-owner were taken to local hospitals and later released. “They were both transported with non-life threatening injuries,” Massacani said in an email. “The suspect was cleared the same day and booked. Victim is in good condition last I heard.”

The case is still under investigation and detectives are trying to determine if there were any additional suspects in the attempted robbery.
