Local nonprofits, city organizations and community activists are hosting various food and toy giveaways in Long Beach starting Thursday, throughout the weekend and early next week.

Many events took place last week to collect donations. Some of the giveaways highlighted here are drive-up only while some are intended for families without cars. Social distancing and masks are required at the events.

Thursday

Drive-up food giveaway: Cabrillo High School, 2001 Santa Fe Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon (Cars may line up at 8:30 a.m.). Long Beach and Los Angeles County officials as well as other community groups will host the food giveaway.

Walk-up food giveaway: Admiral Kidd Park, 2125 Santa Fe Ave., at 9 a.m. Food boxes will be provided for local residents who do not have access to a vehicle or cannot drive there.

Drive-up toy giveaway: Roosevelt Elementary, 1574 Linden Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. The Children’s Clinic in partnership with various community organizations will be hosting a toy giveaway for families. The event is open to the community. Melina Yepiz, the clinic’s director of innovations, said families can call ahead at 562-277-9432 to receive information on the giveaway. The event will take place until supplies last.

Saturday

Drive-up food giveaway: Long Beach Convention Center, 598 E. Seaside Way, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The line to wait for the giveaway will from at Shoreline Drive to N. Pine to Seaside Way. There is not a walk-up option for this event.

Drive-up toy giveaway: McArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nonprofit Local Hearts Foundation in collaboration with other community groups is giving away toys to Long Beach families.

Kits for children ages 0-5: Stimulating toys and books for toddlers will be distributed at two locations: Bret Harte Neighborhood Library, 1595 W. Willow St., and Mark Twain Neighborhood Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St., at 10 a.m. The event will aim to pass out 1,000 of these kits to families on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Food and toy giveaway: Pools of Hope California Aquatic Therapy and Wellness Center, 6801 Long Beach Blvd., at 11 a.m. The event is accessible by car or on foot. About 500 toys and bags with groceries will be distributed.

Sunday

Drive-up toy giveaway: King Park, 1950 Lemon Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Multiple community groups will be giving away toys for families. All children receiving toys must be present with a parent or guardian. The giveaway will serve on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Monday

Drive-up food giveaway: Jordan High School, 6500 Atlantic Ave., from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. North Long Beach city officials and community groups will giving food boxes to families. The giveaway will serve the food on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Food giveaway: 855 Elm Ave. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The YMCA, in association with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, will be giving away donated food boxes to Long Beach families.
