After the lights come off and the ornaments are put back in their boxes this year, Long Beach residents will have 12 sites across the city where they can drop off their Christmas trees to be recycled.

The city will be operating a dozen free drop-off locations starting Dec. 26 and ending Jan. 7 where residents can leave their trees. For anyone unable to drop their trees off at one of the 12 locations, the city will pick up Christmas trees from the homes of anyone whose trash is picked up by the city on Jan. 8.

In order for city refuse workers to pick up your tree, all the decoration and stands just be removed and trees larger than 12 feet tall should be cut in half, according to a memo posted by the city.

Flocked trees will be accepted for pick up. All trees need to be placed where you’d normally put your trash cans by 7 a.m. on Jan. 8.

The memo noted that the city’s refuse workers will try to pick up all trees on this date but if yours is not collected on Jan. 8, it will be picked up throughout the rest of that week of Jan. 10.

The drop-off locations will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on the weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
