Long Beach residents can recycle their Christmas trees by dropping them off at one of 12 locations across the city or placing them outside their homes for pickup on Jan. 7.
The city’s Public Works department’s annual tree recycling event will begin Dec. 26 and run through Jan. 7. Residents can drop them off at one of nine parks located across the city or at other city families including the North LBPD substation, Long Beach Fire Station #14 and the Environmental Services Bureau near Signal Hill.
Trees being dropped off should have all decorations and stands removed and any trees over 12 feet tall should be cut in half. Flocked trees will be accepted, according to the city.
Drop-off locations will open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. during the week and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.
Residents who are unable to drop off their trees can put them out for pickup outside their homes. The Public Works Department is asking that trees be set out by 7 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 7 in the place where residents put the trash and recycling bins out for collection.
However, there is a chance that your tree might not be picked up on Jan. 7 if the volume of trees exceeds the city’s capacity for that day, something a city memo said often happens. Any trees missed on Jan 7. will be collected throughout the rest of the week, according to the memo.
