Long Beach police are investigating an assault that ended in a no-hit shooting in North Long Beach as well as a second no-hit shooting on the Westside, both of which occurred Friday night.

Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West 16th Street just before 11:30 p.m. after reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, police found one man who had been beaten but not shot.

The victim told police he was working on his car when two men approached him and began to batter him with their fists and an unknown metal object. When the men stopped beating him, the victim fled on foot and heard gunfire from the original scene, police said.

The suspects fled in an unknown direction but police found bullet casings at the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, and the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier in the night, just before 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Via Wanda in the Carmelitos Housing Project. Officers found bullet casings and strike marks in the area, but no injuries were reported, police said.

There is no suspect information available and the investigation is ongoing.
