9:55am | Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery announced the winners of their 60th Anniversary Burger Contest today. Hof’s Hut originally began with Harold Hofman and his beach burger stand at 5th Place in Long Beach, in the 1940’s. In 1951, Hofman opened the first Hof’s Hut, in Belmont Shore. Today, Hof’s Hut has six locations in Southern California.

“In celebration of our 60th Anniversary, we will be featuring a new menu item and one that brings Hof’s back to its roots when we started with burgers and fries on a beach stand,” explained Craig Hofman, President of Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery. “This will be a special, new burger that we will sell in September commemorating our 60th Anniversary,” he added.

In May, as part of an overall 60th Anniversary Celebration, Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery promoted their first-ever Burger Contest; wherein they received an estimated 300 burger recipes from guest submissions.

“This was our first time asking our guests for their recipes and getting them involved. It was a great success and a lot of fun for everyone,” added Mr. Hofman.

During the last few months, the submissions were reviewed and ultimately 3 winners were selected, with Mr. Hofman choosing the final winning burger creation. The winner received a BBQ grill and their burger creation will be added to the menu in all Hof’s Hut Restaurant & Bakery locations, throughout September.

Mr. Hofman awarded the Grand Prize to Ms. Shelly Borrell from Costa Mesa, CA. Ms. Borrell created the “Fancy Smancy Steakhouse Burger” and said, “It was my goal to combine the flavors of a fancy steakhouse into one tasty burger and Hof’s blends all ingredients superbly to make it happen.”

Second Prize was awarded to Ms. Vicki Goodman from Long Beach, CA for her “Daily Burger” recipe. Third Prize was awarded to Ms. Diane White from Torrance, CA for her “Ringing in
60 Burger” recipe.
