9:50am | Hundreds of Harbor-area children and their families will benefit from the success of the 2011 Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic, one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments on the PGA TOUR, held this past May in San Antonio.

Locally, Valero officials announced that in September they will distribute $246,000 of the tournament proceeds to benefit 13 Harbor area children’s organizations, which include: the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor, the Wilmington YMCA, Gang Alternatives Program (GAP), International Trade Education Programs (ITEP), Long Beach Boys and Girls Clubs, Long Beach Symphony Children’s Outreach Programs, Long Beach Junior Concert Band, Toberman Neighborhood Center, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and the Ronald McDonald House in Long Beach.

Valero Energy Corporation is an international manufacturer and marketer of transportations fuels, other
petrochemical products and power. According a press release, nationwide, Valero and its employees pledged $10.6 million to the United Way in 2011 and helped raise $9 million for children’s charities through the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic, the contribution is among the largest charity gifts of any tournament on the PGA TOUR.
