A 23-year-old has died about a week after his car smashed into a median, a light pole and a motorhome in East Long Beach earlier this month, police said Monday.

Just before the wreck, Juan Serrano of Anaheim was headed south on Studebaker Road around 8 p.m. on July 21, police said in a news release. As he passed through the intersection with Driscoll Street, he started drifting left and hit the center median, causing the car to swerve across all the southbound lanes.

The car hit the tree and light pole before hitting the parked motorhome—which was empty—and coming to a stop, police said.

Serrano and a 19-year-old from Huntington Beach who was riding in the front passenger seat were both hospitalized in critical condition, police said. Serrano died at the hospital on July 27, according to authorities.

Two women in the back seat of the car, ages 18 and 20, weren’t seriously injured, authorities said.

Police didn’t provide any details on what may have caused the car to drift left. They asked anyone with information to contact investigators at 562-570-7355.
