The House passed the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) today, which includes a provision to provide $376 million in federal funding to the Los Angeles River restoration project, Rep. Janice Hahn’s office announced. The LA River famously empties into Long Beach.

“Today the House passed critical legislation providing federal funding to the efforts underway to revitalize the LA River,” said Congresswoman Hahn, who represents North Long Beach and south Los Angeles, in a statement. “This is exciting news for the River’s advocates back home and for my colleagues and I who have made this project a priority.”

Hahn said that with the funding, projects including restoring natural habitat and creating more green space for communities can begin.
