Today marked the second day of intense battles during the Asics World Series of Beach Volleyball event in downtown Long Beach, featuring many players directly from the Rio Olympics. With the plethora of high-quality athletes, it’s safe to say Long Beach is hosting its own mini Olympic beach volleyball event—with a combined prize of $800,000, that is.
Seven days after winning Olympic bronze medals, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross won two matches Tuesday in the women’s main draw, winning their first pool match in the morning against Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Taylor Pischke, and beating Brazilians Ana Patricia and Carol in the afternoon. Walsh Jennings and Ross are seeded first among 32 teams.
American Olympians Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser started their Pool A matches with a win against France’s Giantommaso and Thiercy.
At the end of tomorrow, both men’s and women’s field will be reduced to 24 teams.
General admission is free. More information on men’s and women’s matches, times and results, click here.
