More than 100 people gathered around Long Beach Performing Arts Center’s Terrace Plaza Monday evening for the city’s inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony featuring 35,000 LED lights on a 40-foot tree.
“We’re going to do this every single year to kick off this incredible season in Long Beach and to celebrate what brings us together and what makes Long Beach so special, which is loving each other, loving our neighbors, supporting each other no matter who we are, what we do, where we live, what are income is, who our family members are,” Mayor Robert Garcia told guests. “That we are all here together to celebrate this incredible time of year.”

The event included food trucks, free hot chocolate and cookies and complimentary train rides for children.
Families even got a chance to take selfies in front of holiday backdrops or take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and carolers and local school choirs served up holiday notes to get guests in the holiday spirit.
The event was sponsored by the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, and the Long Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau.
