Greetings Long Beach, and welcome to From the Grass.
The perspectives presented in From the Grass will be from the grass-roots level of the community, the common people, no titles, and no big salaries. It will be a perspective of those who value the quality of life in the City of Long Beach and stand up for what they believe in. Subject matter will vary from the effects of local and state educational policies on underserved communities to the diversity, unity and division among our neighborhoods. Since it will be a grass-roots perspective, the status quo will be challenged.
From the Grass will also highlight the positive activities taking place in neighborhoods that have been portrayed as violent and dangerous. Through this column I hope to empower others and encourage people in this city to use their own voice. At times, From the Grass will feature perspectives of grass-roots community leaders in their own words.
And of course, as a Gen-Xer, with a foot in Generation Y, I will discuss how policies may have an impact on the future of MY generation of home owners and parents that live in Long Beach.
So, what can you expect From the Grass? Well… perspectives supported by facts, discussions of controversial topics, an occasional call to action, and plenty of questions for you to ponder.
What do I believe? I believe that everyone deserves an opportunity for their voice to be heard, regardless if they are or are not a registered voter, homeowner or possess a college degree. I believe our freedom of speech and expression are our most valuable possessions as Americans. But, I also believe that if you have a complaint or a problem, you need come to the table with a suggested solution or at-least be ready to take a firm stand on your beliefs or don’t complain at all.
I look forward to your responses to From the Grass.
