2:00pm | After someone snuck into the Lakewood Country Club early on Sunday morning and carved a swastika in a golf course putting green, Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe could be offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the perpetrator.
The carving is approximately eight feet by eight feet on the 1st Hole putting green. The damage has already been repaired and reported to the Lakewood Sheriff’s station, but Knabe will introduce his $5,000 reward to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors today for approval.
“The physical damage to the golf course may be repaired already, but the lasting damage that crimes like this leave on a community can be far more devastating,” said Supervisor Knabe, in a press release. “This vandalism is unacceptable hatred.”
Knabe hosts his annual Knabe Cup high school golf tournament at the Lakewood Country Club, and recently secured $5.63 million in grants for improvements to the course facilities. The grants will be used to increase storage, and improve handicap access and junior golf access.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Theo Gekas of the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station at 562.623.3500.
