Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to support state legislation designed to revitalize the Lower L.A. River through updates to the Los Angeles River Master Plan.

“The L.A. River is a natural resource that all communities in our region should have access to,” said Assemblymember Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) in a statement on Monday. Rendon sponsored the bill.

“The support of the Board of Supervisors, along with community and elected leaders from throughout the county, highlights the wide consensus backing this collaborative effort,” he said.

The bill, AB 530, creates a local working group that will update the master plan with a plan for the Lower River in a way that is consistent with the existing county master plan for the river as a whole. The bill is currently sitting in the Assembly Appropriations Committee, pending approval.

“Stakeholders from across the county will have the opportunity to participate and envision a revitalized River,” said Supervisor Hilda Solis in a statement. “When different levels of government work together, the community benefits.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe was unavailable for comment on Monday.
