6:01pm | The Long Beach Police Department arrested four drunk drivers on the night of Friday, May 20, during the department’s latest DUI saturation patrol effort.
The patrol, which put nine additional officers on the streets patrolling specifically for drivers who were impaired and behind the wheel, began at about 6 p.m. Friday evening and ended at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 21.
In addition to the four DUI arrests, the officers conducting the patrol recovered one stolen vehicle, cited three drivers for being behind the wheel without a license or on a suspended license, impounded two vehicles, stored two vehicles and issued 34 citations for miscellaneous traffic infractions.
All costs related to the saturation patrol are covered by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration. The city did not spend any money from the general fund on the effort.
