An on-duty Long Beach police officer was hospitalized Friday evening after being hit by a drunken driver in Downtown, police say.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the officer was driving near the area of West Ocean Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue around 9:48 p.m. on Friday when he was hit by a black sedan. Video captured at the scene by LBCode3Media shows that the black sedan struck the passenger’s side of the patrol vehicle head-on.

At the scene, police found that the driver, 28-year-old Long Beach resident Anthony Roy Say, was driving under the influence of alcohol and was also in possession of a gun when the crash occurred. Say was arrested and taken to the hospital but has since been booked for one count of driving under the influence and one count of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

The LBPD officer was also taken to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Say’s bail was set at $100,000 and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
