WorldCup2014

Police and the Downtown Long Beach Business Association are ensuring public safety during today’s World Cup celebration.

Pine Avenue from Third Street to Broadway will be closed from 2AM to 9PM, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

Police, as well as 10 security guards, will be on patrol throughout the street to watch for any suspicious or dangerous activities.

Pratt said alcohol consumption will not be permitted in public, and drinking will only be allowed at licensed businesses.

Parking restrictions will be in effect, she said, and drivers should ensure their cars are parked in a legal area so they don’t get cited or towed.

“We encourage the community to come down and enjoy all that the event has to offer, and to remind them to celebrate responsibly,” Pratt said.
