With budget cuts affecting schools statewide, teachers and parents are often left to pay for simple things such as photocopies and art supplies. But LBS Financial Credit Union’s Adopt-A-School program is here to alleviate some of that strain, again accepting donations of paper reams, glue sticks and other school supplies which at the end of the summer will be given to local schools in need.
Now in its second year, the program sees LBS Financial working directly with Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD), ABC Unified School District (ABCUSD) and Bellflower Unified School District (BUSD) to choose a different school each summer. It then coordinates collections from credit union members and employees which are delivered to the campuses before school starts in September. LBS Financial has also pledged to match employee cash donations dollar-for-dollar, which will support the additional purchase of school supplies.
This year, LBUSD selected Hamilton Middle School to receive LBS Financial’s donations. Wish lists for items needed are located on the LBS Financial website and at each of their Greater Long Beach locations (Long Beach, Cerritos and Lakewood). Donations can be dropped off directly at any LBS Financial branch location through August 24, 2012.
