The City of Long Beach’s cable channel LBTV, a division of the Technology and Innovation Department, walked away with another heap of STAR Awards, including second place for Overall Excellence at the States of California and Nevada National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (SCAN NATOA).

The STAR Awards were established in 1996 to recognize outstanding community television programming produced by local jurisdictions serving California and Nevada communities, according to the announcement. The winners were announced at the 19th annual conference on June 11 in Santa Monica.

“LBTV has won STAR awards every year since 2001, and that is because LBTV provides outstanding programming that keeps our residents informed, engaged and connected throughout the community,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement.

According to the release, this year LBTV received four First Place STAR awards for “LB’s House” in the environmental category, “Long Beach Promo” in the promotional category, “Sports Break: World Series of Beach Volleyball” in the Sports Show category, and “Heart of the City” featuring Mayor Garcia in the Talk Show category.

LBTV received the Overall Excellence award for its programming over the past year. Other Second Place awards were for: “Pulse of the Ports,” a co-production with the Port of Long Beach in the Magazine Format category, “Long Beach Container Terminal” in the Documentary Profile category, “How Do I?” in the Instructional category and “Sports Break: World Series of Beach Volleyball” in the Community Event category.

LBTV can be viewed in Long Beach on Charter Communications cable channel 3, Verizon FiOS TV Channel 21, and on the Internet by clicking here.
