A Long Beach man who shot a code enforcement officer in the eye during a seven-hour standoff in 2012 was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Tuesday in a Long Beach courtroom, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Anthony Glen Gorospe, 54, was sentenced to prison by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark C. Kim for attempting to kill the 52-year-old Long Beach city code enforcement officer and then shooting at Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers, officials said.
In February he pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder and two counts of assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm.
On July 5, 2012 Gorospe opened fire from inside his front door on the code enforcement officer and a cleaning crew who arrived at his home in the 6100 block of North John Avenue because he received several code violations, Deputy District Attorney Geoffrey Lewin said.
He struck the code enforcement officer near the left eye, causing him to lose the use of that eye, Lewin said.
Gorospe then barricaded himself inside his home and shot at responding officers.
He eventually surrendered about seven hours later with the help of some tear gas, tactical vehicles and a police dog, the Post previously reported.
