The Los Angeles County Fire Department is offering a free, hands-on lesson in CPR — all within ten minutes. Headed by Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby, along with local County firefighters and lifeguards, the training will occur on Thursday, June 7, at various times and locations throughout Los Angeles County. Meet Fire Chief Osby at 10:00am at the City of Commerce Senior Center, located at 2555 Commerce Way in the City of Commerce, to learn Sidewalk CPR from the County’s top firefighter.

Since 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home, the life you save with CPR is likely to be someone you know and love. Bystander CPR, using hands only for chest compressions immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can up to triple a victim’s chance of survival yet only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander. Many are concerned they might do something wrong, but the only way to make things worse is to do nothing at all. Anyone can learn CPR, and everyone should.

No appointments are necessary; just show up at any convenient location at any time during the hours listed. Wait times should be minimal, if at all, as the training should only take 5 to 10 minutes of your time. For a listing of all locations and to learn now to perform hands-only CPR, visit www.fire.lacounty.gov.

L.A. County Fire is proud to partner with the American Heart Association, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services EMS Agency, to bring this lifesaving training to residents across Los Angeles County.
