Following an audio recording of a podcast that eventually went massively viral, community organizers — headed by the NAACP, LA Black Gay Pride president, CTA/CEA Union and CUSD employees, students and community members — will hold a large rally today at a Board Meeting outside the Board of Trustees building at the Compton Unified School District Offices. Organizers claim they are forming a “proper call for the immediate resignation and recall of Board Member Skyy Fisher, who has not been or cannot be fired by the District despite his self-serving and slanderous statements he made on an internet radio show in March 2012.”

The radio show, shown in a clip below, records Fisher going on homophobic and profane rants — most knowingly calling recently murdered black teen Trayvon Martin a “faggot,” and yet audaciously wearing a hoodie to a Board meeting to give off the aura that he was in solidarity with the Martin movement in order to advance his desire for a council seat in the City of Compton. May 4 | Compton Unified School Distrit Board (CSUD) member Skyy D. Fisher, marked as the board’s legislative representative, is under fire from media and civil rights groups across the nation as he called his Superintendent Karen Frison a “bitch” and Trayvon Martin a “faggot black dude” on a friend’s podcast that was recently placed on YouTube. Calling for his firing seems easy but would require 8,000 signatures to be gathered, according to a piece by LAWeekly.

Fisher, a Compton native, was elected to the Compton Unified board of trustees in November 2011; his profile has been removed from the CUSD website. He’s also been a representative for the American Federation of Teachers and a union organizer for Services Employees International Union, served as Assembly District Delegation chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party from the 52nd Assembly District, as well as a delegate for the state democratic party.

Fisher’s comments, which begin near the 7:20 mark in the video below, include:

  • “…that white dude that killed that faggot black dude in Florida.”
  • “That bitch superintendent wouldn’t give me a fucking district car, and I told that bitch that I was going to get her.”
  • “We’re meeting this Tuesday at 7 o’clock. Oh! You’ve got to definitely come. There’s solidarity with this Trayvon Martin bitch, and I’m trying to get on news so I’m wearing the hoodies at the whole board meeting… It’s the perfect publicity stunt. I’m going to wear a hoodie, the news is going to come out, and I’m going to announce my candidacy for City Council, goddammit.”

The Compton Unified School Board has yet to provide a comment.
