Long Beach has been named one of Los Angeles County’s most business friendly cities for the second year in a row by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC).

The LAEDC noted that Long Beach “has demonstrated its commitment to retaining jobs in its region through an investment in the local business community by offering Enterprise Zone benefits, expedited permit processing, and a transparent proactive government comprised of civic leaders who understand the necessity of planned growth.  Their Long Beach Business Development Center offers grants and loans, permit and site selection assistance, and help with employee recruitment and training.”

“This is great news,” said Mayor Bob Foster. “The message we want to convey to California’s business community is: ‘We want you in Long Beach and we need the good jobs your companies will bring.” Foster became Long Beach’s Mayor last year after retiring as president of Southern California Edison.

“Long Beach’s commitment to economic development is clear, consistent and substantial,” said Bill Allen, CEO of the LAEDC.  “Long Beach is an example for cities throughout the County.”

Also named by the LAEDC were the cities of Lancaster, Palmdale, Burbank, Santa Clarita and Cerritos.  The top award winner will be announced in November at the LAEDC’s annual Eddy Awards, which celebrate individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional contributions to positive economic development in the region.
