2:26pm | Eighteen lucky Long Beach residents will receive energy efficiency home makeovers after nine Grand Prize winners and nine Runners-up were named winners of the Energy Efficiency Opportunity Drawing.
“I would like to thank the participants and congratulate all of the winners of the energy efficiency opportunity drawing,” said Mayor Bob Foster. “This is a great opportunity to showcase examples of energy efficiency in our community.”
Grand prize winners will receive $5,000 for a home energy efficiency makeover and runners-up will receive $800 toward an energy efficient device for their home. Contestants with the highest 20% energy bill costs in each district were entered into the Grand Prize drawing, while contestants with the lowest 80% energy bill costs in each district were entered into the Runner-Up drawing. Essentially, those with the highest energy usage were entered for the more lucrative prizes. Winners were selected at random.
According to a press release, the Energy Efficiency Opportunity Drawing is a partnership between the City and Southern California Edison (SCE) and is designed to encourage Long Beach residents to save energy and money and to provide visibility and best practices for residential energy efficiency installations.
